NIMMSTA’s statement about their new solution, first presented at LogiMAT 2022, is clear: in combination with the Industrial Smart Watch, intralogistics processes can be handled more digitally, faster, and up to 80% more efficiently with the Light Tag. But how exactly does the Pick-by-Light solution work, and what sets it apart from others?

The LEDs in the Light Tag can illuminate in different colors and patterns. Each Light Tag is assigned to a location via Bluetooth before being attached to a specific storage location. A magnetic strip or adhesive tape can be used for mounting.
When the employee receives an instruction via the NIMMSTA wearable barcode scanner (the HS 50 model is available in Standard Range and Mid Range) to go to location 1 and comes within a radius of 10 meters of that location, the Smart Watch and the Light Tag will light up in the same color. This makes the exact storage location immediately visually identifiable, accelerating the workflow by up to 80%.

Traditional Pick-by-Light solutions work in a similar way. So what is the advantage of the NIMMSTA Light Tag? According to the manufacturer, it lies in the simple and fast integration of the system into the warehouse, whereas implementing traditional Pick-by-Light systems is often very costly and time-consuming. Typically, all racks need to be wired, electronics must be installed, and software has to be implemented.
“With NIMMSTA, the solution is simple and smart, because the intelligence already resides in the Smart Watch, which only communicates with the specific Light Tag when needed,” according to the manufacturer.
